Some days we are just doing our best to make it through the week.
We stay in potential movement trying to reach our goals.
One major thing I started practicing years ago was self-reflection.
Have you contemplated slowing down to do self-reflection but did not know what it looked like?
What is self-reflection?
Self-reflection is the defined as meditation or mental process about one’s character, actions, and motives.
When we cultivate self-reflection it makes us more conscious of what drives us and helps us to make the changes needed for growth or development.
What makes self-reflection important?
- It helps us to understand ourselves and others.
- It can give you prespective
- It can help you respond more effectively
How to start self-reflection
- Ask yourself questions to start reflecting. Here is a list that will get you started.
- Journaling is a great way to get your thoughts and emotions out. Try an online diary app or a print journal for self-discovery and reflection.
- Seek support for more difficult or emotional situations to work through. Do not allow shame to stop you from seeking help from a professional or love one.
- Make self-reflection a priority in life so you can see the benefits.
Be Patient
When we choose to self-reflect we become intentional on our personal growth in life. A commitment is required to nurture and develop this skill. Remember when we are learning something new it requires time and patience to experience the benefits. Today you can start with a small step by trying one of the tips I shared.
What are your thoughts? Do you find it hard to practice self-reflection? Or do you have a personal experience you can share on how self-reflection helped you? I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
