SUPER-FICIAL

We live in a culture that is on social media overload. Some people are uncomfortable when its time to meet face to face. Do not get me wrong I love social media. Within social media world a person can become anyone. Now we also create selfies in Photoshop that make us look perfect: but may shock you when the real life person is encountered!!

From time to time I am challenged to really know who is who and what is real. I have even taken the time to look into my own life to see if I have fallen prey to the Superficial epidemic going on. We are becoming more and more concerned with how a person looks, what they are wearing, what kind of house they live in, etc. Curiosity is a part of life, but we must guard ourself from the take over of being phony in our life. I looked up the word SUPERFICIAL for those of us who love to understand words:) Here goes…

SUPERFICIAL

In order to get to know a person we have to go deeper than what we see. Its like wearing makeup, especially full cover foundation that conceals all blemishes and presents a perfect complexion.
In stead of hiding we need to come out and be who we are. Obviously you can not trust everyone with your heart but you can work at being authentic. Most relationships don’t work out because people stay surface and if they venture too deep usually one party can not handle it. I say be brave and take the coverage off. Remove that mask and let other see the great person behind it.

Not sure if you watch the television show called, ‘How to get away with murder.” There was a scene where the lead actress gets terrible news and she begins to strip herself of everything superficial. I was moved by the scene because at that moment she was being real, exposing her true feelings and willing to be vulnerable.

It’s really ok with me that you are not perfect. Just be real, be sincere and be you.
