Live your life with meaning, not urgency. ~ Sybil F. Bull
My heart is filled with gratitude for all the lessons I have learned in the last five years.
One major lesson has to do with the power of a pause.
The word pause means a temporary stop in action or speech.
It can be viewed as an invisible button you push in your mind that allows you to interrupt what you are doing or saying that promotes health and well being.
You may be wondering why would you need to pause and what makes it powerful?
You have landed on this post at the right time for insight and understanding.
Majority of us knows what it means to plow through, grind, press on and never stop.
But the pause is foreign to some of us, simply because we were trained to give and give until we almost faint.
We work with intensity only to burn out and possibly incur health challenges.
What if you just interrupted everything to listen to what your inner self is screaming it needs?
When we pause in a healthy way, we may discover what is going on with our thoughts and body.
Avoid unhealthy pausing like watching television or doing other things to avoid or distract ourselves.
What does a pause look like?
A healthy pause is small break where physical activity or mindfulness is taking place instead of work.
What are examples of a pause?
- Going outside for a walk
- Listening to music
- Meditation for a few minutes
- A solo dance party
- Take a moment to be present in your life (smell the roses)
- Eat lunch away from your desk without doing business
- Short nap
The benefits of pausing
- Helps us to manage our stress levels
- Stops us from living on auto-pilot
- It makes room for inspiration and creativity
- Boost awareness to healthy choices
- Increase focus
- Healing
You have the power to stop whenever you sense the need arising.
There may be times you pause and feelings arise that need your attention. Take the moment to address them when you are ready.
I would love to hear from you if you use the power of a pause and what changes have you seen after doing it? Feel free to share anything you do to pause with other readers so they can benefit from the power of a pause!
Your Optimum Cultivator,
Sybil F. Bull
