This morning was a rough start for me. I woke at my usual 5am time but felt like someone had taken all my strength while I slept. Of course I did what anyone else would do in my situation, I went to back to bed.
The second time around was not as heavy as the first, but I was not my full energy rejuvenated self.
During this unprecedented time we all need to get enough sleep but for more than 50% of the population sleep is a huge challenge.
Before we hit this pandemic some of us including myself was not getting enough zzz’s at night. With quarantine some have created patterns that over stimulate them keep their minds buzzing.
Today I hope to inform a few who will read this post to look at sleep in a different way.
I grew up hearing quotes like “I can sleep in my grave.” Now I wonder how many have gone to their graves earlier than necessary because they did not get enough sleep.
Hmmm 🤔 lets talk about this subject called sleep.
Here is the number one reason…
- One of the vital roles of sleep is to help us solidify and consolidate memories. As we go about our day, our brains take in an incredible amount of information. Rather than being directly logged and recorded, however, these facts and experiences first need to be processed and stored; and many of these steps happen while we sleep. Overnight, bits and pieces of information are transferred from more tentative, short-term memory to stronger, long-term memory—a process called “consolidation.” Researchers have also shown that after people sleep, they tend to retain information and perform better on memory tasks. Our bodies all require long periods of sleep in order to restore and rejuvenate, to grow muscle, repair tissue, and synthesize hormones. https://www.sleepfoundation.org/articles/why-do-we-need-sleep
Did you read that information? I was totally shocked at all the activity taking place while we slept. This explains why some of us wake up thinking about certain topics or having inner conversations as soon as we open our eyes.
Have you woke up with the solution to a problem you could not figure out the day before? This happens when we are sleeping .
I don’t know about you but my mind is renewed to how I view sleep. I am already planning what time I need to go to bed tonight😆😁
What if you shut everything off, and laid down? You may discover you accomplish more in less time simply because you slept.
Going to bed require more intentional effort for some than for others, but we all need to create a routine for bed time like we do for our children if you are a parent.
Here is a suggestion to try; choose a cut of time for work, social media, conversations filled with responsibilities and stress.
Second, create a routine to help you unwind, and relax.. Try music, a good book (not one filled with drama) coloring, breathing techniques, bed time affirmations or a hot bath with candles.
Whatever you do, choose to detach, reset and rejuvenate.
Sleep is a great place to recharge and receive answers.
Have you noticed your sleep pattern shift since the Pandemic started?
