Personally I have never been drunk but I have been intoxicated many times in my life.
Before I get too far ahead of myself let me define what sober means.
Sober means to be clear headed, not drunk, calm and peaceful.
During this COVID-19 experience I can say most of us including me were not always mentally sound, calm, peaceful or rational.
We are facing a pandemic for the first time and no one really had answers. Not having control scares the average person.
Over the past few months most of us have encountered highs and lows due to this season. On any given day after watching or listening to the news our hope could plummet without warning.
Fast forward into the six month of the pandemic (although it has been longer) we are recreating our life. With the help of prayer, support, community and for some loads of therapy, people are coping and perhaps beginning to see the light again.
Although things are the same (even when others pretend there is no COVID) there is constant change taking place in us and around us.
Our mental state may begin to shift a little at a time from toxic thinking to sobriety. We find ourselves day in and day out refocusing on what is important, what we can control, the the people who matter the most, and how our future will look.
Sleep has return into our life again and insomnia has decreased. For others it is laughter that has return because fear drowned out the small moments of pleasure.
Personally for me, I refuse to be optimistic(in an unhealthy way) that I ignore reality; although we should all stay postive and full of hope.
If the remainder of this year looks anything like the last five months, I encourage you to accept the things you can no change and change the things you can.
Because life keeps going, it is imperative that we find our own rhythm, surround ourselves with love, create a safe space, and simply life our live sober.
No one knows what the future holds, but we can certainly use today as the gift it is.
Choose to find harmony that brings you joy in small ways.
Love intentionally.
Forgive those who wronged you.
Embrace those you love a little longer and a bit tighter.
Connect, and communicate with your village.
Do not stop dreaming, even though life looks like a nightmare.
Whatever you do, make your inner life a sanctuary that peace abides.
Stay safe. Stay SOBER😌
