Today I had the best idea when I woke up and seen the sun shining bright. It felt as if an exclusive invitation had been sent in my name to attend the most fun and adventurous day of the week.
Being a strategist I started envisioning what I needed to take with me, what time I should leave to ensure I arrive on time and most importantly what will I eat.
As I gazed outside through my office window, the sun rays kissed my cheek so softly, I could almost hear the words being whispered for me to come out and play.
I took a few deep breaths and then exhale. This was going to be an incredible day.
Before leaving I decided to write in my journal as I usually do in the morning. As I wrote my thoughts out, some things became clear to me that were foggy. My vision had been blurry all this time but was now being corrected.
Within seconds the reality of what was taking place became vivid. This is what I called a good distraction.
After being in the house, working, having social distance, I created a narration in my mind about how much I needed a break and today would be the day.
Perhaps for some, they would have filled up their gas tank, packed up and driven off without a care in the world, but for me, this was not the time.
Falling for a good distraction is not always negative, we need good distractions to help keep us mentally sound.
However, a good interruption during pivotal progress will leave you in a place of digression.
If we fail to schedule our self-care/ wellness moments during the week, we leave ourselves open to emotional stimulation that will seduce us into making feel-good decisions.
An example of feel-good decisions could be purchasing a high ticket item during a decrease in your income just because it made you happy at the time, but the end result was misery.
It is important to access what a good distraction looks like for your life.
Here are a few things you can do if you experience or undergo good distractions.
- Check if you are abandoning important assignments, people, or things for a good feel.
- Slow down long enough to ensure your vision is not blurry
- Access if this decision will hinder your progress in any way
As always I do not have all the answers, just sharing a few things I do. Would you take a moment and share how you handle good distractions that lead to poor results.
Stay Focus.
