Every now and then I experience anxiety.
When I was younger I did not know what it was or how to properly deal with it.
Years later I finally have insight on how to deal with my triggers.
Perhaps you are experiencing panic and don’t have any answers.
To be certain you understand what anxiety is I will share the definition and then some simple things I do personally that may help you.
Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like high blood pressure.
Many people suffer from anxiety disorders which occurs when anxiety starts to severely impact on a person’s life. Rather than feeling anxious in response to actual danger, someone with an anxiety disorder will experience the same symptoms in situations they perceive as dangerous (e.g. meeting new people or taking public transportation).
Today we will focus on general anxiety.
Here are some tips on how to manage anxiety
- Pray (if you are religious)
- Take deep breaths that will create a relaxation flow in your body
- Exercise or do short term activities you enjoy.
- Confront the things you fear.
- Engage in emotional regulation and mindfulness
- Watch a funny movie, or show that makes you laugh and distracts you
- Identify what has the attention that keeps you worried then shift your thoughts
- Write your thoughts out in a journal
- Talk with someone
- Eat well-balanced meals
If you are experiencing severe anxiety I suggest you see a professional and not suffer in silence.
A major thing that I learned is anxiety happens to everyone and does not have to take over your life.
If you have some other tips you use to manage moments when worry tries to get the best of you please share in the comments below.
Have an amazing day!
