New Things

Friday we had a Holiday Paint Party that was really great. Seeing everyone laugh, talk and figure out what to do was wonderful. As I looked over the room most of us had the same question going on in our head. What am I going to do with my canvas? The artist had drawn the outline for our picture, it was up to us to choose colors for painting. Even though as children we had colored and even painted, this moment seemed so unfamiliar. Some of us approached the activity as if we had never done it. For me it was a learning period, for how uncomfortable yet exciting new things are. Within most of our minds we wanted to do an exceptional job. I personally wanted my painting to reflect me but more so a hidden talent that would be seen. As we made our color choices I observed how focus and serious most of the ladies were. It was very important that they made as little mistakes as possible. Caution was in the action of each stroke of our brushes. Every now and then the little girls in us would stop and giggle about what fun we were having. This new experience exposed us to our abilities as well as our need to be in control of the moment. Once we were able to let go of our fears or apprehensions the fun began for most of the ladies. As I reflect I can see that new things may bring up concerns, old failures or success. New things done with others makes the moment more meaningful and eventful. New things will reveal our comfort level for change. New things will also provoke us to invite others to share in the next experience we plan.

Here is the finished product from the paint party. I was not able to complete my bow so the artist finished it and added a few things to personalize it for me. What do you think?

I am ready to do the next “New Thing!!”
