This year our family was privileged to attend the Miss USA Pageant. We were not a Pageant family, but four years ago things changed. Our middle daughter was invited to do pageants and she tried it out. In her first year she was the first runner up. After seeing her potential she decided to pursue her destiny and do the second year. In her fourth year she won her competition and was crowned Miss Delaware USA for our state. Yes ladies and gentlemen we were beyond EXCITED!! Not only had she won, but she would be the first African American to represent the state since it began. Last week we traveled to Baton Rouge to watch the pageant and witness our daughter make History!!! She placed in the top 15 and then the top 10…we screamed so hard our heads hurt and our body ached but it was worth it. No one from Delaware had ever placed and our baby girl had done it. Then to top off things off she was awarded Miss Congeniality with Alaska. We knew she would make History because she purposed to do it. But she surpass most peoples expectations and broke records no one had done in Delaware. In this moment of typing these words I am emotional. The confident, humility and elegance she displaced during the pageant was fabulous. Yes I am proud of her accomplishments. She is right down the hallway from my room as my daughter but also as a history maker. WOW!! They always said you never know who you are birthing into this earth. I can say with all humility I was chosen to birth a History maker.!! People will read about her years and years later because she is the first in so many ways:) In our eyes she is nothing less than a WINNER!!
